Gangster Sheru brought to city on transit remand

Patna: Bihar police on Tuesday brought notorious gangster Omkar Singh, alias Sheru Singh, the prime conspirator in the high-profile Chandan Mishra murder case, from Purulia jail in West Bengal on transit remand.

He has been lodged in Beur Central Jail under heightened security arrangements.Jail superintendent Neeraj Jha confirmed that the gangster was brought to the jail under heavy security after being produced before a court in Patna on Tuesday afternoon. “We don’t know how long he will be lodged here. But strict vigilance is being kept,” he said.Sheru Singh is serving a life imprisonment sentence in connection with the 2011 murder of Buxar-based businessman and lime trader Rajendra Kesari.

He has been named as the mastermind behind the killing of gangster Chandan Mishra, who was shot dead on Jul 17, 2025, inside Paras Hospital in Patna while undergoing treatment.Police investigations indicate that the murder was the result of a long-standing rivalry and power struggle between the two former associates, who once operated together in Bihar’s Shahabad region before turning into bitter rivals. Arrested shooters and other accused named Sheru Singh during interrogation, providing leads that linked him to the conspiracy.

Police sources said Sheru Singh allegedly planned the murder from behind bars and hired a team of five assailants who stormed the hospital ward and fired multiple rounds at Chandan Mishra. In the case, Patna police have already submitted a detailed charge sheet, backed by evidence including a forensic science laboratory report, face-match analysis, digital records and CCTV footage. A nearly 1,000-page case diary and a charge sheet of around 100 pages were submitted, citing gang rivalry as the motive.Following the murder, five accused, including the main shooter and his associates, were arrested from Kolkata, while three others were arrested after an encounter in Bhojpur district.
