Panaji: The Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) is working on a proposal to upgrade water supply systems across its industrial estates through a comprehensive plan that proposes smart flow meters, automated operations, and real-time monitoring of water quality.“This initiative is part of the broader objective to strengthen water supply, improve the quality of water supplied to industries, and enhance operational efficiency across industrial estates. This includes the supply, installation, and commissioning of smart flow meters, and wireless water level and quality transmitters,” said an official. The data from these smart devices will be integrated with a cloud-based system for GIDC.This proposal was discussed by the GIDC board. The initiative aligns with the department for promotion of industry and internal trade’s (DPIIT) focus on improving infrastructure in industrial zones and parks. DPIIT’s Industrial Park Rating System (IPRS), launched in 2018, evaluates industrial estates on critical infrastructure, connectivity, business support services, and environmental and safety standards.
Under IPRS 2.0, adequate water supply and continuous monitoring of air and water quality have become key assessment parameters, said GIDC sources.According to the proposal, the smart devices must be deployed across estates to help GIDC meet the stipulated benchmarks. “These systems will automate pump operations based on real-time tank levels and pressure readings, ensuring steady water flow while preventing overflows and dry-run incidents.
Data from all devices will be transmitted to a central platform for monitoring, analysis and billing,” said the source. The corporation hopes that the system will help detect leakages and pilferage of water, track water drawn from PWD or WRD sources, and provide unit-wise consumption updates through the GIDC online portal. Officials believe the upgrade will strengthen supply reliability, improve industrial water quality, and enhance operational efficiency across estates. The estimated project cost is still under finalisation.
