Guwahati: Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has secured accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) for its radiology services for a period of four years, effective from May 29, 2026.Officials said the NABH assessment was conducted at GMCH on February 15 and 16, and the final certification was received on Wednesday.Sharing the update on X, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “With an aim to offer standardised healthcare across Assam’s public hospitals, I had asked all Medical Colleges to secure @NABH_QCI accreditation. Happy to share that @gmchgauhati, @TezpurH, @AmcDibrugarh, @FAAMCHbarpeta and @JmchOfficial have received it till date.”Sarma said inspections at Silchar Medical College and Hospital have been completed and accreditation is awaited. He added that two cancer care hospitals under Assam Cancer Care Foundation in Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur have also received NABH certification.GMCH Principal Prof. (Dr.) Achyut Baishya said the institution began the accreditation process in line with the chief minister’s push for quality certification across medical colleges in the state.
He thanked GMCH Superintendent Dr Devajit Choudhury and staff for their efforts.Baishya said the Radiology Department, under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Dipu Bhuyan, Head, Department of Radiology, prepared radiology services across all wings of GMCH for the accreditation. “This accreditation certificate will ensure timely service of radiology in all wings of the GMCH and timely delivery of the reports to the patient as per protocol,” Baishya said.He added, “The waiting time has been reduced, procedures have been streamlined, and on time delivery of the report of the Radiology department is being ensured under this accreditation procedure.”
