Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that “good news" on the proposed India–US trade pact can be expected once both sides arrive at a deal that is fair, equitable and balanced. He emphasised that India would safeguard the interests of its farmers and fishermen as negotiations move forward.

Speaking at the Indo-US Economic Summit organised by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, Piyush Goyal said the negotiation of any trade agreement is a complex process and must take into account the concerns of farmers, fishermen and small industries.

“India, as a nation, has to protect their interests," he said, adding that a positive outcome would emerge only when the agreement reflects mutual benefit for both countries.
