Google streamlines Gemini, YouTube and Maps now work without separate commands

Google’s Gemini AI assistant is evolving once again. In a move aimed at streamlining user experience, Google has removed the standalone ‘@Google Maps’ and ‘@YouTube’ apps from Gemini, opting instead for direct integration of these services into the assistant’s core capabilities.

As reported by 9to5Google, earlier, users had to invoke specific apps within Gemini—such as typing “@YouTube” or “@Google Maps”—to access those services. Now, Gemini can natively understand and respond to queries involving directions, locations, or video content without requiring those explicit commands.

A shift toward natural interactions

This change reflects Google’s broader vision for Gemini: a more fluid, conversational AI that doesn’t rely on rigid commands. For example, users can now ask, “How do I get to India Gate?” or “Show me the latest music videos,” and Gemini will automatically pull in results from Google Maps or YouTube without needing to specify the source. “We want Gemini to feel like a true assistant—not just a command-line interface,” a Google spokesperson said.

What this means for users

* Simplified Experience: No need to remember or type “@” commands—just ask naturally.* Faster Access: Gemini now fetches location data and video content directly, reducing friction.* More Integrations Coming: Google hinted that more services will be embedded directly into Gemini in the future, further blurring the lines between apps and AI.This update is part of Google’s ongoing effort to make Gemini a central hub for productivity, creativity, and everyday assistance—without the need to toggle between apps.
