Minister for Women and Child Welfare, and Tribal Welfare Gummadi Sandhya Rani has launched the distribution of energy-efficient induction cooktop stoves to 11,400 out of 55,607 anganwadi centres in the first phase, and inaugurated a sapling planting drive on the occasion of World Environment Day here on Thursday.

Addressing the gathering, Ms. Sandhya Rani said the State government was committed to restoring the past glory of the anganwadi centres, and stressed the need to spread awareness about the importance of making the State plastic-free. She said the induction stoves would not cause any pollution and were safe for children.

She assured that the government would do justice to the anganwadi teachers in paying them salaries that they deserved, and in giving other benefits such as gratuity, while criticising the previous government for completely neglecting them.

The government would provide funds for augmenting the infrastructure in the anganwadi centres and upgrading the mini-anganwadi centres to main centers.

Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath commended the services being rendered by the anganwadi teachers, and said out of the 1,457 anganwadi centres in NTR district, 553 had permanent buildings, and proposals were submitted for the construction of compound walls for 226 anganwadi centres and for maintenance of 60 centres.

Energy Efficiency Services Limited CEO Vishal Kapoor said Andhra Pradesh was ranked first in the country in the implementation of energy efficiency programme and that using energy-efficient technologies would not only help the environment but also reduce electricity bills.

Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan and Principal Secretary A. Surya Kumari were present.
