The State government will likely form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) soon to probe the alleged voter fraud in Aland in Kalaburagi district, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge has said.

“B.R. Patil [Aland MLA] has appealed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to form a SIT to probe the case. The matter was discussed in the State Cabinet on Thursday. The SIT will likely be formed in a day or two,” Mr. Kharge said.

Home Minister G. Parameshwara was not in the country on Thursday, delaying the formation of the SIT, sources said.

Meanwhile, responding to a question by presspersons on the next course of action, Mr. Kharge said that since multiple letters from the Criminial Investigation Department (CID) had got no response from the Election Commission of India, they may have to “move legally”, hinting at a legal battle like approaching the courts seeking directions to the poll panel to share the key technical data with the CID.
