Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday reaffirmed his government’s commitment to establishing a Film City in Mysuru, saying it would be developed on the lines of the one in Hyderabad.
“Why would the government allot 160 acres of land for the project if it was not serious about it?” the Chief Minister asked, responding to concerns from some film personalities over the delay in its implementation.
Speaking at the State film awards presentation ceremony for 2018 and 2019 in Mysuru, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that 160 acres of land (at Himmavu village near Nanjangud) had already been handed over to the Department of Information and Public Relations.
He added that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) was currently under preparation and expected to be ready by the end of December.
The Chief Minister announced that the Film City will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. “Once the DPR is finalised, tenders will be invited and the project will take off,” he said.
Mr. Siddaramaiah highlighted his government’s continuous efforts toward realising the long-pending dream of developing a film city in Mysuru. The identified land for the project falls under Varuna constituency, which the Chief Minister represents.
After a period of uncertainty over whether the Film City should remain in Mysuru or be shifted closer to Bengaluru, such as to Ramanagara, the government finally decided to retain it in Mysuru, with land already allotted for the purpose.
