Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that 571 new government schools will be opened this academic year in both rural and urban areas where there are more than 20 children, marking a major expansion of educational access.

The Chief Minister revealed this at a review meeting with senior officials on Friday in the wake of the reopening of schools.

He stressed the importance of integrating skill development with academic learning. “Children should not only gain language proficiency but also be equipped with practical skills from the high school level. This will help them excel in their chosen fields later in life,” he said. He added that the curriculum should be reoriented to make students more self-reliant and career-ready.

He directed the officials concerned to create a mechanism aimed at providing qualitative education to all students enrolled in the government run schools. The focus should be on enhancing teaching standards and the education system should include skill development courses in addition to language and subject knowledge.

Keeping in view the rapid urbanisation being witnessed in the State, the Education Department should coordinate with the Municipal Administration Department to set up schools in areas earmarked for social infrastructure in HMDA municipal layouts, he said.

Steps should be taken to rationalise the educational institutions upto intermediate level being run by SC, ST, BC and minority welfare departments so that specified number of students were present in the classes. Since large number of students were preferring residential schools owing to the quality food, study material and other provisions, officials should examine the scope for extending these facilities to day scholars too.

Students should also be counselled about their social responsibilities so that they could emerge as responsible citizens.
