A day after winning the gram panchayat elections, the newly elected sarpanch of Kandikatkoor in Rajanna Sircilla district fulfilled her election promise to address the monkey menace in her village, winning the hearts of villagers.
Vijayamma, who emerged winner in Sunday’s sarpanch election, translated her election promise into action the very next day. She has roped in monkey catchers from Suryapet district who in turn trapped around 113 simians in a special cage on Monday.
The trapped monkeys were later released into the forest safely, sources said.
It may be mentioned that the issue of monkey menace dominated the gram panchayat election campaign in dozens of villages reeling under rampant monkey menace in the erstwhile Karimnagar district. Candidates in the fray in several of these villages promised to check monkey menace, if elected.
In Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, a defeated candidate in the just concluded sarpanch elections demonstrated her unwavering commitment to fulfil the promise she made to local villagers.
Despite her defeat in the gram panchayat polls, Vijayalakshmi, a post-graduate, along with her supporters volunteered to bear the cost of drilling a borewell at a local temple in the village, as promised during her election campaign, irrespective of win or defeat at the hustings.
Sources added that the borewell drilling work began on Tuesday.
