US Vice President JD Vance also highlighted his personal connection to India, noting that he is married to the daughter of Indian immigrants.

JD Vance flagged fraud concerns in the H-1B visa system but also acknowledged contributions of immigrants.
US Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday (local time) praised Indian immigrants for their contributions to the United States, while also raising concerns about fraud in the H-1B visa system.
While speaking at the Turning Point USA event, the Republican leader acknowledged the contribution of immigrants and said that the system works best when beneficiaries prioritise American identity and national interest.
Vance also highlighted his personal connection to India, noting that he is married to the daughter of Indian immigrants. He added that many immigrants, including Indians, have played a key role in strengthening the country and contributing to its growth.
“On one hand, there is a lot of fraud in the H1-B system and on the other hand, there are people who came in and enriched the country, like my in-laws. I am married to the daughter of immigrants from India, and I love my in-laws. They’re great people and have been great contributors to the USA," he said as quoted by news agency ANI.

Vance also pointed to issues within the H-1B visa system, saying there are cases of misuse that need attention. He also underlined what he described as a key responsibility for immigrants who become citizens.
“One of the obligations of such citizens is that they must think about the country and not the country or group they came from… The system works only when everyone thinks of themselves as Americans…" he added.
Many Indian professionals use H-1B visas to live and work in the United States. The Trump administration has tightened its immigration policies, introducing stricter rules for both legal and illegal entry, including tougher conditions for H-1B visas.
Calling misuse of the H-1B system a national security concern, Trump last year announced a $100,000 fee on new H-1B visas. This decision created panic and confusion, especially among Indian workers.
