GRP nabs man who stole pistols, cartridges from ITBP jawan on train

RAIPUR: The Government Railway Police (GRP) has arrested a 24-year-old man and recovered two 9 mm pistols, 24 live cartridges, and three empty magazines that were stolen from an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) jawan on the Hatia-Durg Express.The ITBP jawan, Yogendra Prasad Ojha (35), a resident of Kateya village in Bihar's Bhojpur district, was travelling from Ranchi to Durg on 4 August when his bag was stolen from the moving train near Bilaspur. The jawan lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the GRP Bilaspur police station.A GRP team led by Inspector Rakesh Kumar Verma apprehended the accused, identified as Ranjit Markam, a resident of Khamharia in Balodabazar district, within 48 hours.

The case was investigated under the guidance of GRP Director General Shweta Shrivastav Sinha.According to the Railway Deputy Superintendent of Police S.N. Akhtar, the ITBP jawan was travelling with five of his colleagues to Dongargarh in Rajnandgaon district. The accused first approached the jawans and asked for money. While the jawans were napping, the accused stole the backpack. The jawan's complaint mentioned four empty magazines, of which three have been recovered, the DSP said.The GRP used CCTV footage and intelligence to catch the accused. The police are investigating the matter further. The accused has two other cases pending against him, the DSP said.
