In Ahmedabad, a woman who had meticulously prepared for a family wedding faced disappointment when the tailor failed to deliver her blouse on time. The wedding, which took place on December 24, 2024, required her to wear a traditional saree, for which she had given cloth to a tailor to make a blouse.
The woman had paid an advance of Rs 4,395 and completed all her shopping well in advance. However, ten days before the wedding, she discovered that the blouse was not fully stitched. Despite the tailor’s assurance to complete it before the wedding, it remained unfinished. Consequently, she had to wear a different saree, causing her significant mental distress.
Following the wedding, she took the matter to the Consumer Court. The Ahmedabad (Additional) Consumer Dispute Resolution Commission acknowledged the tailor’s failure to deliver the blouse on time and the mental distress it caused.
The court ordered the tailor to return the advance of Rs 4,395 with 7% annual interest, along with compensation for mental stress and litigation costs, totalling a fine of Rs 7,000. The tailor did not appear before the court, leading to the judgement in the woman’s favour.
