Panaji: Cybercrime police station arrested an individual on Thursday for his alleged involvement in attempting to access and trade sensitive personal data through online platforms for cryptocurrency.Based on a complaint filed by PSI Navin Naik, an FIR was registered under Section 66 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.“The accused, Vishal Gohil, aged 42 years, resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, was taken into custody from Calangute,” SP cybercrime Rahul Gupta said.Preliminary findings indicate that the accused was attempting to procure confidential information and offer it for sale through encrypted platforms, including Telegram, and receive payments through cryptocurrency channels to mask the transactions.Gupta said that the accused is currently in custody, and further investigation is underway to verify the extent of data accessed, trace financial trails, and identify any co-conspirators or digital platforms used in the crime.Goa police said public is urged to report any suspicious cyber activity or data misuse to the cybercrime police station, Ribandar, or via the cybercrime helpline 1930.
