Usually, while Bollywood filmmakers start movie promotion tours from Mumbai, for Varun Dhawan, “Ahmedabad has always been my first preference to start anything new.” The Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari actor, who was in town recently, shares, “I have visited Ahmedabad several times, and it is one of my favourite cities in India.
For every film of mine, main promotions yahin se shuru karta hoon, and it has been very lucky for me. The love I get here is immeasurable, and yahan pe jo logon ka aashirwaad milta hai, that is too special.”He adds, “Also, people here are so warm and affectionate. Gujarati girls are beautiful and sweet, isiliye maine shaadi bhi ek Gujarati ladki se hi ki hai (smiles).” ‘I’m continuing my father’s legacy’ While Varun has delivered strong performances in films like Badlapur and October, he says light-hearted films are his preferred genre.
He shares, “I seek films that are multi-genre—that have comedy, romance, family bonding, and a little bit of action. Basically, it should be something that families can watch together. While I enjoy doing other genres too, as they challenge me, I choose to do films that are light-hearted.
” He adds, “As David Dhawan’s son, I believe such a preference comes naturally to me. As a child, I remember asking him why he makes only comedies, and he told me, ‘I have also made a film like Swarg, so it’s not like waise films nahi banani hai.’ But he believes in making people laugh and have a good time. I am just continuing that legacy. We have so much tension and stress around us, and in the middle of that, if we get to watch a film that can offer us a laugh or two and can bind families together, I will definitely want to do such films.
” Varun also shares, "I believe Gujarat has one of the biggest family audiences. If a film that is a family entertainer works here, it will work everywhere in the country."
