Harbhajan Singh has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the withdrawal of his security cover. The court has sought replies from Punjab and the Centre while ordering interim protection for his family.

Harbhajan Singh has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging the Punjab Government’s decision to withdraw his security cover.
Rajya Sabha MP and former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging the Punjab Government’s decision to withdraw his security cover and seeking its immediate restoration.
In his petition, Harbhajan Singh questioned the basis on which his security was withdrawn and also sought action against the mob that allegedly attacked his residence and wrote “gaddar” (traitor) outside his house.
The High Court, hearing the matter, issued notices to the Punjab Government and the Centre and sought their responses. The court also directed authorities to ensure the safety and security of Harbhajan Singh and his family members until further proceedings in the case.
The judge asked the Punjab Government to clarify the basis of the security review and inform the court about the action taken in connection with the “gaddar” incident outside the Rajya Sabha MP’s residence. The court further directed the state to place on record its official stand along with the threat assessment report.
The Punjab government withdrew Harbhajan Singh’s security on Saturday, following which the Centre provided him CRPF protection. The move came after he left the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as a Rajya Sabha MP, along with several others, including Raghav Chadha.
The next hearing in the matter has been scheduled for May 12.
