 Another pipeline leak contaminates water in Khargone;  14 fall ill

KHARGONE: At least 14 persons fell ill after drinking water that had been contaminated due to leakage in pipeline in a ward in Mandleshwar town of Khargone district.Block Medical Officer incharge of Mandleshwar community health centre, Dr Sonu Mandloi told TOI that 14 persons from one area of the ward were treated at their homes for the past three days.

They had complained of mouth ulcers, abdominal pain, loose motions, and cramps, he said.The patients had complained of dirty water coming from household taps, the BMO said adding that continuous health surveys were conducted in the affected area, and no new cases were reported on Thursday. All the patients have recovered.Mandleshwar Nagar Parishad chief municipal officer (CMO) Sanjay Rawal told TOI that repair work was carried out immediately after the leakage was detected, following which the supply of clean water was restored.

He added that a joint inspection of the area was conducted along with Mandleshwar Sub-Divisional Magistrate.The CMO clarified that the contamination occurred due to leakage in a pipeline connecting to a house, where accumulated dirty water mixed with drain water and polluted the drinking water supply. He said the situation is now under control, and safe drinking water is being supplied to the affected area.
