Hyderabad experienced heavy rain on Saturday afternoon (October 25) following several days of cloudy skies. While some localities remained sunny, many parts of the city recorded significant rainfall.
The rainfall follows the current depression over the Bay of Bengal, which the IMD said is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm, resulting in rainfall across several parts of Telangana.
Areas such as Rajendranagar, Shaikpet, Jubilee Hills, Yousufguda, Begumpet, Secunderabad and Alwal experienced rainfall, while localities, including AS Rao Nagar, Nacharam and Mallapur, remained sunny until around 2 p.m. In Shaikpet, waterlogging at the Shaikpet Nala led to severe traffic congestion, hampering vehicle movement. Similar conditions were reported at Panjagutta flyover, Ayodhya Junction and Bible House, where water accumulation caused slow-moving traffic.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police urged commuters to plan their travel accordingly and use alternative routes wherever possible.
Data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) showed rapid changes in rainfall across the city. Until 1 p.m., Ramachandrapuram and Patancheru had recorded the highest rainfall at 12 mm each. By 3 p.m., Chandanagar recorded a rainfall of 53.8 mm followed by 48.8 mm in Ramachandrapuram and Patancheru, 41.8 mm in Gachibowli, 38 mm in Shaikpet, 37.3 mm in Serilingampally, 36.8 mm in Rajendranagar, 35.5 mm in Lingampally, 29.8 mm in Sivarampally, 28.3 mm in Jubilee Hills, 24.8 mm in Jeedimetla, 23.8 mm in Saroornagar, 23 mm in Moosapet, 22.3 mm in Hafeezpet and 22 mm in Malakpet.
The Cyberabad Traffic Police also issued a weather advisory on X, warning of scattered moderate to heavy rainfall expected across the commissionerate between 1.30 p.m. and 3.30 p.m.
