Heavy rain continued to lash the Rayalaseema region for the second consecutive day on Wednesday (October 22, 2025) as a low-pressure area over the southwestern Bay of Bengal deepened, bringing incessant rains to the interior districts.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall alert has been issued in the districts of Sri Sathya Sai, Chittoor, Annamayya, YSR Kadapa, Anantapur, and Nandyal districts until Friday.

The Rayalaseema region reported waterlogged areas, overflowing tanks and rivulets, and marooned agricultural lands in several mandals.

In the Sri Sathya Sai district, steady rain was reported from Puttaparthi, Penukonda, and Hindupur, and Dharmavaram divisions. The rural roads turned slushy, and minor irrigation tanks started flooding with rainwater from Tuesday night. Farmers in Chilamathur mandal of Anantapur district, and Gorantla mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district said that the downpour commenced late Tuesday and through the night, inundating vast stretches of groundnut fields.

Control room opened in Annamayya district

In Annamayya district, heavy spells paralyzed normal life in Rayachoti, Rajampet, and Lakkireddypalle areas. Cheyyeru and Bahuda rivers were reported to be in mild spate, and the runoff flowed across the causeways in the rural areas. Field officials from the revenue, panchayat raj, and R&B reported minor damages to the horticulture crops, while bringing respite to farmers from the long dry weeks since March. District Collector Nishant Kumar said that a control room had been set up at Rayachoti with the number 08561-293006.

The adjoining YSR Kadapa district witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall, bringing between 50 mm and 80 mm of rainfall since Tuesday morning. In Anantapur, scattered rain was reported, but there was heavy downpour in Kalyandurg, Dharmavaram, and Kadiri. Uprooted trees and temporary power outages were reported on the rural side.

A steady shower continued in Nandyal district, with knee-deep water in several panchayats in the Allagadda and Koilakuntla regions.

In Chittoor, the district administration is on alert following steady inflows into the Neeva river surrounding the Chittoor municipal corporation and the adjoining GD Nellore assembly constituency. The irrigation and revenue officials were instructed to monitor the water flow into the Krishnapuram reservoir near Karveti Nagaram.

Downpour was reported in Nagari, Karveti Nagaram, Chittoor, GD Nellore, SR Puram, and Nindra mandals. The officials said, except for heavy rainfall, there was no damage to the public or private property in the region. “Police personnel are being deployed to prevent visitors from moving towards the Kaigal waterfalls near Palamaner. A special watch is kept at overflowing causeways in the rural areas, particularly in the Gudipala, Karveti Nagaram, and Vedurukuppam areas,” SP Tushar Dudi said, appealing to the public not to move closer to water bodies.

The agriculture and revenue officials were on a spree of inspections in affected villages in Chittoor, Sathya Sai, and Annamayya districts. Disaster management personnel were kept on alert in view of the heavy rainfall warning till Friday. The teams were directed to concentrate on waterlogging, weak and overflowing culverts, and tanks vulnerable to breaches.
