The weather agency has issued a red alert and ornage alert for three districts each across Kerala. Meanwhile, yellow alert has been issued for eight districts.

The India Meteorological Department on Tuesday warned that very heavy rains will continue in Kerala and issued red and orange alerts across several districts.

The weather agency has issued a red alert in three districts, namely Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts, while an orange alert has been issued in three districts, including Thrissur, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts. Additionally, a yellow alert has been announced for eight districts across the state.

The Meteorological Department has announced that widespread rains are likely in Kerala for the next five days.

Meanwhile, moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds with a speed of up to 60 kmph are expected in isolated places in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Kannur and Kasaragod districts of Kerala in the next few hours.

The weather agency has announced that there is a possibility of moderate rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 50 kmph in isolated places in all other districts. Very heavy rain is predicted in Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts, but the situation is similar to a red alert.

Yellow Alert Issued For 8 Districts

Yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and Palakkad districts and isolated heavy rain is predicted.

Relief Camps Opened, 4 Deaths Reported

Heavy downpours continued to wreak havoc in Kerala, forcing people to shift to relief camps and safer locations in many places. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the intense monsoon has claimed four lives in the state so far.

As many as 29 houses were destroyed and 868 houses partially damaged across Kerala, the CMO said. Five relief camps were opened in Wayanad district and one each in Idukki and Kozhikode districts, it added.
