Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) met the family members of martyr Constable Sunil Dhan and provided financial assistance of ₹2.66 crore.
On April 12, during a special raid operation against Maoists in the dense forest of Ratamati village of Chotanagra police station area under West Singhbhum district, Constable Sunil Dhan — deputed in Jharkhand Jaguar — was seriously injured in an IED explosion. He was airlifted to Ranchi for better treatment, but succumbed to his injuries on April 12.
Mr. Soren handed over a cheque for the amount of ₹1.20 crore, issued under the State Bank of India’s Police Salary Package, to Dhan’s family members, while the Home Department credited an amount of ₹1.46 crore to the bank accounts of Dhan’s dependents.

The late Constable’s family visited Mr. Soren at the Chief Minister’s residential office located at Kanke Road, Ranchi. Enquiring about the family’s situation, the Chief Minister asserted that the State government would always stand with the family.
Dhan’s mother Fagni Uraain, 65, wife Gandari Dhan, 29, and two Priyansh Dhan, 5 and Aniket Dhan, 3, and other relatives were present for the interaction.
“Constable Sunil Dhan ji has given his supreme sacrifice while serving the people of the State, and we all salute his martyrdom. Our government deeply understands the pain of a martyr’s family, and Jharkhand will always be indebted to its martyrs,” Mr. Soren said.
Mr. Soren asked the family to provide good education to Dhan’s children and informed his wife that she could get a government job on compassionate grounds if she desired, under the provisions of the State government.
“Move forward with courage and patience, the government is with you. The State government will always stand with you in your happiness and sorrow, ”Mr. Soren told the Constable’s wife.
The mother of the Constable told Mr. Soren that her ancestral home was in Kanti Pohra Toli of Karra block in Khunti district, where farming could be done to generate more income
Mr. Soren instructed the officials to provide all the benefits available to the family of the martyr as soon as possible, apart from enrolling them for other benefits, including pension, offered by the State government.
The officials informed Mr. Soren that the process related to pension has been completed, and the family would start receiving pension amount from next month.
Principal Secretary Home Department Vandana Dadel, DIG Jharkhand Jaguar Indrajeet Mahatha and other senior officials were also present.
