1. Row over ‘VIP treatment’ at Bengaluru prison: Chief Prison Superintendent transferred, two others suspended
Following allegations of ‘VIP treatment’ being extended to some inmates at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, Karnataka government on November 10, 2025, transferred Chief Superintendent of Prisons K. Suresh, while two junior officials were suspended. Home Minister G. Parameshwara announced that for the first time, Bengaluru Central Jail will be overseen by an IPS officer to ensure strict supervision and accountability.
Meanwhile, the controversy triggered strong political reactions, with senior BJP leaders staging a protest in the city. The issue resurfaced last week after new videos emerged showing notorious inmates, including serial rapist Umesh Reddy and terror suspect Juhad Hameed Shakeel Manna, allegedly using smartphones and receiving preferential treatment inside the prison. Another video purportedly showed inmates consuming alcohol and dancing within the prison premises.
2. BJP questions Karnataka government after video of namaz in Bengaluru airport goes viral
A video purportedly showing a group of people offering ‘namaz’ (Islamic prayer) at Terminal-2 of the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru has ignited a political controversy in Karnataka, with the opposition BJP taking exception to the incident and demanding accountability from the State Government.
The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows security personnel nearby observing the group offering prayers. BJP Karnataka unit spokesperson Vijay Prasad asked AM Siddaramaiah and RDPR Minister Priyank Kharge whether those offering prayers at the public place had obtained prior permission as mandated in the recent rule framed by the State Government.
3. Ex-MP Anna Saheb Jolle elected Belagavi District Central Cooperative Bank president, Raju Kage vice-president
Anna Saheb Jolle, former MP and BJP leader, was elected president of the Belagavi district central cooperative bank while Congress MLA Bharamgouda Alagouda (Raju) Kage was elected the vice-president. The two leaders were elected unopposed as other candidates did not file nominations, in Belagavi on November 10.
In an election that was not fought on party lines, the Jolle-Jarkiholi panel was pitted against the Katti-Savadi panel. After a three month long, intense campaign, the former claimed to have won 13 of the 16 posts of director in the bank. The Katti-Savadi panel won the rest. Ramesh Katti and Laxman Savadi, both former presidents of the bank, did not file nominations.
