A major accident was narrowly avoided on Friday when a private bus driver suffered a fatal heart attack while driving in Tamil Nadu’s Dindigul district.
The alert conductor took swift action by manually applying the brakes to stop the moving bus. His timely action saved all the passengers.
Officials said that 35 passengers were on board when the driver suddenly collapsed at the wheel. Video footage shows the driver slumping in his seat as the bus continued to move forward uncontrolled.
Reacting quickly, the conductor rushed to the driver’s side, removed his sling bag, and used his hands to press the brakes.
The bus came to an immediate halt, causing a female passenger seated at the front to be thrown from her seat.
Passengers reacted with concern as some checked on the driver while others helped calm the situation.
The conductor then switched off the engine and assisted in positioning the driver’s body.
Officials confirmed that all passengers remained unharmed and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a similar case reported last November, a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) driver named Kiran, 39, died of a cardiac arrest while driving a bus near Yeshwantpur.
He was operating the route from Nelamangala to Yeshwantpur when he suddenly felt intense chest pain and lost consciousness.
