In a shocking incident, Nagpur’s Social Security Department has busted a prostitution racket allegedly operating under the cover of a beauty salon, rescuing two women and arresting the prime accused.
The crackdown took place under the ongoing “Operation Shakti" drive, aimed at curbing crimes against women. Acting on a tip-off, police raided the “Look Book by Inara Unisex Salon" located in Mangalam Apartment, Sitaburdi, on Wednesday evening. Officers said they had received intelligence that the salon was being used to lure women into sex work in exchange for money, with arrangements for clients made within the premises itself.
During the operation, the salon’s owner, Deepa Godde, was arrested on the spot, while her alleged associate, identified as Pooja Josh, fled before the raid and remains at large. Police said Rs 40,000 in cash and a mobile phone were seized from the accused.
Investigators allege Godde and Josh had been actively soliciting women for prostitution and providing space for the activities in the salon. The rescued women have been placed under protective custody.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act at Sitaburdi police station. Authorities have handed over Godde to the station for further interrogation, while search operations are underway to trace the absconding co-accused.
Police officials said the “Operation Shakti" initiative will continue with intensified surveillance to dismantle similar networks in the city.
