Responding to criticism from YSRCP leaders on the social media about parole for life convict A. Srikanth, Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy on Saturday admitted that he had given recommendation letter on humanitarian grounds when the former’s father came to him seeking parole for his son.
Addressing the media at his office here, Mr. Sridhar Reddy said, “From now onwards, as long as I am an MLA, I will not give recommendation letters for parole to any relatives of prisoners in the name of humanity.”
“It is true that I gave a letter to Srikanth’s father. However, the Home Department rejected the letters given by me and Gudur MLA P. Sunil Kumar,” he added.
“Generally, MLAs give letters to those who come with various issues. The officials examine them and give a reply as per the rules and regulations. Every matter teaches lessons to politicians, and I am a lifelong learner,” Mr. Sridhar Reddy said.
Accusing the YSRCP leaders of spreading false information on the issue, Mr. Sridhar Reddy reminded them that Srikanth had been granted parole in the past with the recommendation letters given by former MLAs Kiliveti Sanjeevaiah and Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy when their party was in power.
“I had disagreed with former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and came out of the party 18 months before elections. During that period, the YSRCP leaders had harassed me, my family members, and our supporters. After the coalition government came to power, not a single YSRCP worker has been attacked in Nellore Rural constituency,” he asserted.
Giving a strong warning to the YSRCP leaders, Mr. Sridhar Reddy said, “I am ready to talk about the murders, sand mafia, and gravel smuggling during their tenure. If I want to take revenge on those who harassed me, I would have shown them what hell is like. But, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has tied our hands. He has given instructions to all the MLAs and Ministers against resorting to revenge politics.”
