Two individuals, including a Home Guard, was arrested for smuggling ganja into Hyderabad by the State Task Force C team of the Telangana Excise and Prohibition department. The officials seized 15.33 kg ganja worth around ₹7.5 lakh.
The arrest was made during checks near Ramoji Film City on Saturday (November 8) morning. The accused, identified as Nilambar Mirkan, 50, a police Home Guard, had been contacted by one Umakant Nagar from Odisha’s Malkangiri district to transport a consignment of ganja to Hyderabad.
Acting on credible intelligence, the team intercepted the car driven by Sona Kala, 35 and conducted a detailed inspection.
Although no contraband was found initially, officers noticed scratches and signs of tampering on the spare tyre in the vehicle’s boot. On dismantling it, they discovered four packets of ganja concealed within the tyre lining. The packets collectively weighed 15.33 kg.
Both Mirkan and Kala were taken into custody, while a case has also been registered against Umakant, who supplied the ganja from Odisha.
The seized car and the contraband were handed over to the Hayathnagar excise station for further investigation.
