Punjab FC bolstered their goalkeeping unit with the signing experienced Indian goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh on a one-year contract ahead of their AIFF Super Cup opener against Gokulam Kerala FC on Monday.
The 28-year-old from Mahilpur joins the club from Hyderabad FC, marking a return to his roots as he was part of Minerva Punjab’s historic I-League-winning squad in the 2017-18 season.
A product of the AIFF Elite Academy, Arshdeep began his professional career with Minerva Punjab before moving to the Indian Super League in 2019. He played for Odisha FC, FC Goa, and Hyderabad FC in successive seasons, making over 50 ISL appearances to date.
Punjab FC technical director Nikolaos Topoliatis emphasized the club’s dedication to nurturing local talent.
“Every player dreams of representing where they come from, and for me, that dream has come true with Pujab FC. Coming from Mahilpur in Hoshiarpur, I’ve grown up surrounded by the passion Punjabis have for the sport," he said.
“Punjab FC is extremely proud to have signed Arshdeep, who will not only strengthen our goalkeeping unit but also bring a significant piece of homegrown talent into the system," he stated in a release.
