The BJP on Tuesday zeroed in on Samrat Choudhary as Bihar’s next Chief Minister, making him the party’s first leader to occupy the top post in the state. The choice brought to end days of intense speculation following Nitish Kumar’s election to the Rajya Sabha and his subsequent resignation as Chief Minister.

Even before Nitish Kumar's resignation, political circles were abuzz with indications that Samrat Choudhary, a prominent OBC face, had emerged as the frontrunner. The proposal was endorsed by central observer and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
