Hrishikesh Pandey on World Environment Day: It’s not that if you have money, you can afford to waste resources

Actor Hrishikesh Pandey, known for his grounded nature and strong sense of responsibility, opens up about his deep concern for the environment on the occasion of World Environment Day. While the world continues to battle climate change and global warming, Hrishikesh stresses that the time for just talking is over—“It’s an alarming time now,” he says.The actor reflects on the drastic changes we are already witnessing due to global warming. “We can clearly see the floods, the uncertainty of weather… sometimes it should be cold, but it’s not. It rains in December, in October—anytime. We are not realizing it, but without nature, we are nobody,” he shares.He also points out that despite numerous environmental campaigns, we are still struggling with basic issues like cleanliness.

According to him, law and order must be strictly implemented. “Even though we have laws against plastic use, people are still openly using polythene bags and bottles. There are hardly any recycling plants. Waste is going into jungles, seas, mountains—everywhere. Birds and animals are dying.

It’s heartbreaking.”Hrishikesh, who has always led by example, speaks passionately about his personal commitment. “I’ve been like this since childhood.

I’ve seen my parents being responsible, and I follow the same. Whether at home or on set, I always make sure to switch off lights, fans, and ACs when not in use. I never waste water and keep reminding others too—even if they don’t always like it,” he admits.One of the simplest yet most effective things he practices is avoiding plastic altogether. “I carry my own bag while shopping. I use glass and steel bottles instead of plastic.

People use so many polythenes and keep throwing them everywhere. We really have to be particular about these things—it’s our responsibility.”He believes that real change comes from within and urges everyone, especially public figures, to take their influence seriously. “When celebs take a stand, people notice. Even simple, consistent acts like switching off a light or refusing plastic can make a difference. It’s not about showing off—it’s about caring.”Hrishikesh signs off with a strong message: “Just because you have money doesn’t mean you can waste resources. We all need to act responsibly, because change starts at home.”
