“When we want to be spotted somewhere, we call them”

Jaya Bachchan recently stated that she has “zero” relationship with paparazzi. Amid this, actor Huma Qureshi offered a more balanced view, acknowledging the system's flaws while also recognising how celebrities actively engage with and benefit from paparazzi visibility.

How Huma Qureshi sees value in the paparazzi

In an interview with India Today, Huma admitted that the relationship between celebrities and paparazzi is not one-sided. She described her equation with the paparazzi is good and healthy. She said, “I think they are also important. I won’t lie, but we use them when we need to promote our films or bring a certain aspect of our lives into the public eye. There have been times when we needed to promote our films, so we invited them to premieres.

” She noted that it would be unfair to hold photographers solely responsible when celebrities themselves invite attention at times, “When we want to be spotted somewhere, we call them. I don’t want to put all the blame on them.”

Where paparazzi cross the line on privacy

Huma also addressed the darker side of the culture, especially for women. She shared that intrusive questions, uncomfortable camera angles, and inappropriate curiosity are common experiences.

She said, “If you want to intrude on my privacy, you will ask questions that I won’t find appropriate… There’s a limit people should not cross, but we do cross it. As a female actress, I have experienced all of this".

What Jaya Bachchan said that sparked the controversy

During the conversation with Barkha Dutt, She said she has zero relationship with paparazzi and has the most respect for traditional media, “Those who wear cheap tight pants and hold a mobile in their hand think just because they have a phone, they can take your picture and say what they want… What kind of education, what background do they come from?”

On the work front

Huma Qureshi was recently seen in season 4 of the popular web series ‘Maharani’ and season 3 of ‘Delhi Crime’.
