The Hennur police on Thursday detained a wall painter for allegedly smothering his 22-year-old pregnant wife over a domestic row in Thanisandra three days ago.
The deceased, identified as Sumana, hailed from Uttar Pradesh and lived with her husband Shivam in a rented house in Thanisandra. According to police, Sumana died three days ago, but her body remained inside the house until it began to decompose.
The accused Shivam reportedly went to work the day after her death, and the following night, he is said to have consumed alcohol and had food while his wife’s body was there. By the next day, as the stench grew stronger, neighbours grew suspicious and found Sumana dead. Shivam had already fled by then.
The Hennur police, who rushed to the spot, said there were no external injuries, but bleeding from the nose . The police suspect that she had been smothered to death and are awaiting the post mortem report to confirm the cause of death.
