HYDERABAD: A quiet Friday afternoon in Jagadgirigutta turned into a devastating tragedy when a 10-year-old boy, Jasith Chowhan, lost his life in a road accident involving a school bus.
The heartbreaking incident occurred at Shiva Nagar Chowrasta around 4 pm and has left his family in deep shock.Jasith, son of Mukesh Kumar, an AC mechanic from Shiva Nagar, was a cheerful class IV student at a nearby school. Born and raised in Hyderabad, his family had migrated from Bihar three decades ago in search of a better life. Like any other child, Jasith returned home from school around 3.30 pm and, full of energy, set out on his bicycle to play. The road at Shiva Nagar Chowrasta had been partially dug up for cement work, making it uneven. As Jasith cycled over the broken stretch, he lost balance and fell-tragically landing right in front of a passing school bus. The vehicle's front left tyre ran over him. A video of the accident has gone viral on social media.'No external injury'"The driver stopped immediately and reversed. Jasith was conscious and even speaking.
Since there was no visible external injury, the driver took him home and informed his family," said sub-inspector E Satyam of Jagadgirigutta police station. But what seemed like a minor incident quickly turned critical. Jasith began to complain of stomach pain. He was first taken to a local clinic and then rushed to Omni Hospital in Kukatpally, where doctors declared him dead. His internal injuries had proved fatal.Police booked a case against the school bus driver, Mohammed Majid, under section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death due to negligence. Majid was arrested on Saturday and released with a notice for further inquiry.Jasith's body was handed over to his grieving family after the autopsy. He is survived by his parents and a one-and-a-half-year-old sister-too young to understand the depth of the loss that has shattered her family.
