A research and development unit was inaugurated at Aakar Asha Hospital in Hyderabad, a not-for-profit institution dedicated to providing comprehensive plastic, reconstructive and microsurgical care to all sections of society.
Led by Gowrishankar, former head of the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), the division will work on studies in genetics, nerve-muscle interaction, biomechanical forces, anatomical modelling and wound healing — all aimed at improving the outcomes and accessibility of surgical treatments for the less privileged and rural population, said a press note.
Marking its 12th anniversary, the hospital had organised a two-day foundation workshop for plastic surgery trainees on October 24–25. It featured expert sessions on microsurgery, hand fracture fixation, subsurface endoscopy and soft tissue distraction.
