The Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) received 23 grievances on Monday during its Prajavani programme. The majority of complaints pertained to the encroachment of stormwater drains, while the remaining concerned the encroachment of parks, roads, and open spaces, a statement from HYDRAA informed.

Residents of Brindavan apartment in Chikoti Gardens in Begumpet raised concerns over inundation caused by the construction of the drain. During the heavy rains of 2020, the apartment’s basement was submerged, they said. Other residents of Begumpet reported narrowing of Hasmathpet drain and Picket drain, which posed danger for Paigah Colony, Viman Nagar, BHEL Colony, Avanthi Colony, and Rasoolpura Basti.

Local residents of Kukatpally complained about the encroachment of the drain between Rangadhamuni Cheruvu and IDL Lake, along with part of the full tank level. During heavy rains, seven colonies face the risk of flooding.

Balaji Nagar Welfare Association representatives complained about encroachment of sewage and stormwater drains, due to which flood water that ought to reach the Saroornagar Lake is drowning the slums in Balaji Nagar in Saidabad.
