Morgan is facing up to three months of restricted movement and has to use crutches for six weeks.
English broadcaster Piers Morgan recently took to X to update the world on his health following a shocking hospitalisation after breaking his hip in a painful fall. On Sunday, the 60-year-old media personality took to the social media app to explain that he fractured the neck of his femur after tripping on a small step inside a London hotel restaurant.
The injury was so severe that he had to undergo a full hip replacement leading to Morgan facing up to three months of restricted movement with doctors even advising against long-haul travel for at least 12 weeks for recovery.
Morgan's viral post
Morgan shared a picture of himself in a hospital bed, adding that he 'fell like a sack of spuds' after misjudging a small step and will also have to use crutches for six weeks. "‼️ BREAKING NEWS ‼️ 1. Tripped on small step. 2. In a London hotel restaurant. (🙄)3. Fractured femur. 4. So badly I needed new hip. 5. Recovering in hospital. 6. Crutches for 6wks 7. No long-haul for 12 wks," he wrote in the post. He ended his post with two puns: "8. New Year off to a cracking start!" and "9. I blame Donald Trump."
Netizens react to Morgan's post
Morgan and Trump have been long-time allies. While many netizens understood the broadcaster's friendly poking at the American President, others were enraged at him.
"Piers, you can't blame President Donald J. Trump for everything. It's the age—you fall, you break. It's that simple. Wishing you a speedy recovery." wrote one. "See what happens when you question Trump? The curse is real." added another. “Noooo. This is absurd!” wrote former Newsnight host Emily Maitlis along with heart emojis.
Morgan and Trump: The unlikely friends
The broadcaster and the President have known each other for 17 years. They first met when Morgan appeared and won Trump's 'Celebrity Apprentice' in 2008.
"Piers, you’re a vicious guy. I’ve seen it. You’re tough. You’re smart. You’re probably brilliant. I’m not sure. You’re almost certainly not diplomatic. But you did an amazing job. And you beat the hell out of everybody… You’re the Celebrity Apprentice." Trump apparently told Morgan at the end of the show as per The Spectator.
Eight years later when Trump became the President in 2016, Morgan sent him a card saying: ‘Well, Donald, you’re a vicious guy.
I’ve seen it. You’re tough. You’re smart. You’re probably brilliant. I’m not sure. You’re certainly not diplomatic. But you did an amazing job. And you beat the hell out of everybody… You’re the President of the United States.’Over the years, the two have maintained a stable relationship. However, recently it might be facing some troubles. Morgan recently called out his long-time friend over his imposition of tariffs on countries trading with Iran, writing in an X post: "Britain should repurchase America. After all, it was ours once, and it would enhance our North Atlantic security. If you don’t sell it to us, President Trump, we’re going to impose tariffs on the U.S.
and any country that supports you in resisting this very good deal. Fair?"However, any reply from Trump is awaited yet unlikely to arrive.
