The Boston Celtics received a major boost this week as star forward Jayson Tatum continued his return to the lineup following a long injury recovery. The six-time All-Star played a huge role in Boston’s 109–98 road win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday, delivering a late three-pointer that helped seal the result.

Soon after the game, Tatum shared a heartfelt message on social media that quickly caught fans’ attention. The post was a clear reflection of the emotional side of his comeback after months away from the court. Tatum had missed a large stretch following a ruptured right Achilles tendon during the 2025 playoffs. His return brought excitement across the Celtics community, and the latest performance showed signs that he is settling back into rhythm with his teammates during a crucial stretch of the season.

Boston controlled most of the matchup in Cleveland. Jaylen Brown produced a strong all-around performance with 23 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists as the Celtics built a large lead. Jayson Tatum added 20 points on 6-of-16 shooting in his second game back in the lineup.Late in the fourth quarter, as Boston was protecting its advantage, Tatum knocked down a three-pointer with 1:59 remaining. The basket extended the lead and helped close the door on Cleveland’s comeback attempt.

After the victory, Tatum took to Instagram and posted an emotional message: “I missed you girl.”

The Celtics forward had already shown glimpses of his impact earlier in the game. He scored 12 points in a quick burst during the opening quarter to help Boston grab control early.

Tatum later reflected on his comeback and the feeling of returning to a normal game routine. Speaking after the win, he described how the second game of his return felt more familiar compared to the emotional home debut earlier in the week.“Today felt a lot more normal, just from a preparation standpoint in this league,” he said. “It felt like being back in the flow again.“It’s just amazing how happy I am to be back and wanting to be out there more.”Tatum’s return was also personal as his mother, Brandy Cole-Barnes, made a surprise trip to Cleveland to watch him play. The two remained close throughout the lengthy rehabilitation process that followed surgery last May.“She texted me this morning to say, ‘Hey, I’m coming to Cleveland,’” he said, smiling. “I looked up in the crowd and she was just crying. Seeing me on the court obviously brings her a lot of joy.”Boston is now managing Tatum’s minutes as he works back to full strength. He logged 27 minutes in the game and played key stretches alongside Brown and Payton Pritchard.
