The Cyber Crime Police of Hyderabad arrested 55 people for various cybercrimes and registered 196 FIRs in October 2025. A total of ₹62,34,446 was refunded to victims during the month. Zonal cyber cells also registered 130 FIRs, arrested 29 persons, and refunded an additional ₹18,22,818.

According to data shared by the wing, the arrested individuals operated 61 bank accounts that collectively saw transactions amounting to around ₹107 crore. The accused were linked to 136 cases across India, including 45 within Telangana.

The arrests were made across Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, and Bihar, in connection with 33 cases. These included business frauds, credit card fraud, digital arrest scams, investment and trading frauds, social media offences, insurance and loan frauds, and job frauds. Police seized 31 mobile phones, 14 cheque books, passbooks, debit cards, laptops, company stamps, and SIM cards from the accused.

Among the key cases was a ‘digital arrest’ fraud in which a 62-year-old Hyderabad resident lost ₹1.07 crore after being threatened over a fake investigation by fraudsters posing as Mumbai Crime Branch officials. The accused, identified as Himanshu Singh, Ramesh Kumar, Abhishek Pandey, and four others from Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, were arrested for their roles in the scam. Investigators found they worked with Chinese handlers and used OTP-stealing apps to siphon money from victims.

In another case, a 68-year-old man lost ₹1.95 lakh after his stolen phone was misused for unauthorised bank transactions. Three accused, all residents of Hyderabad, were arrested and mobile phones seized.

The Cyber Crimes unit urged citizens to remain cautious of online frauds involving fake investment groups, impersonation of senior officials, and malicious links sent via WhatsApp or SMS. Officials clarified that no government agency conducts ‘digital arrests’ or demands money over video calls.
