A young doctor was found dead inside a parked car near Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, after allegedly administering intravenous (IV) fluids to himself.

The deceased, identified as Dr Joshua Samraj, a postgraduate medical student from Salem working in Madurai, was reportedly under financial strain, police said.

The body was discovered in a forested area near Poomparai after locals noticed the car had been parked in the same spot for three days and alerted authorities.

Police confirmed that the 29-year-old had taken IV fluids himself inside the vehicle, suggesting possible suicide.

A suicide note was recovered from the car in which Dr Samraj apologised to his family but did not blame anyone or mention a specific reason for taking the step.

His parents later told police that he had been suffering from depression due to personal relationship issues.

“There were reports that he took the extreme step due to losses in online gaming. We have not found any such detail in his suicide note, nor do his parents say so. We are investigating," a police official told NDTV.

Authorities have registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem examination. The final cause of death will be determined following the autopsy report, they said.

The incident has once again raised concerns over mental health challenges among young professionals, particularly in the medical field.
