US Senator justified that the biblical teaching forms the basis of his strong backing for Israel amid its ongoing conflict with Iran

US Senator Ted Cruz defended America’s support for Israel in an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
In a heated interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Senator Ted Cruz defended the United States’ support for Israel by citing a Bible verse saying, “those who bless Israel will be blessed."
Cruz justified that the biblical teaching forms the basis of his strong backing for Israel amid its ongoing conflict with Iran, which shows no sign of abating.
“Growing up in Sunday school I was taught from the Bible, those who bless Israel will be blessed, and those who curse Israel will be cursed," Cruz told Carlson in the almost 2-hour-long interview released on Wednesday. He added, “From my perspective, I want to be on the blessing side of things."
Carlson, known for his tough questioning, challenged Cruz repeatedly. He asked Cruz where in the Bible the phrase was found, to which Cruz replied, “I can find it. I don’t have the scripture off the tip of my…," urging Carlson to “pull out [his] phone" to help locate it.
Carlson then said, “It’s in Genesis. You’re quoting a Bible phrase you don’t have context for, you don’t know where in the Bible it is… that’s your theology?" He pressed Cruz to clarify if the Bible was calling for Christians to support the government of Israel.
Cruz insisted that his support came from the Bible’s command to back the nation of Israel, not necessarily its current government. “It doesn’t say the government of Israel, it says the nation of Israel. So that’s in the Bible. As a Christian, I believe that."
The exchange grew more tense as Carlson questioned what Cruz meant by “Israel," pointing out the difference between the biblical nation and the modern state. “Is that the current borders, the current leadership? Is the nation God is referring to in Genesis the same country Benjamin Netanyahu is running now?"
Carlson also stressed his concerns about blindly following biblical interpretations to justify foreign intervention. “I’m a Christian," he said. “I want to know what you’re talking about… I’m confused."
