On the occasion of Diwali, Indian and Chinese troops exchanged sweets at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on Monday, marking a gesture of goodwill between the two sides. Defence sources told CNN-News18 that this tradition resumed last year after being paused since the Galwan clash.
The exchange of sweets usually takes place at Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) points along the border. There are at least five such BPM points stretching from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh, where troops from both countries meet to maintain peace and dialogue.
The practice was stopped following the 2020 Galwan Valley clash but restarted last year alongside the resumption of patrolling in areas like Depsang and Demchok, the source added.
