India vs Australia 3rd ODI Match Playing 11, Full Squad: Led by Shubman Gill, India will play for their pride when they take on Australia after losing the first two of the three-match ODI series at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday. The Men In Blue lost by seven wickets in the first match in Perth before losing the following game by two wickets in Adelaide.
On both occasions, the Indian batting order failed to live up to expectations, with the biggest surprise being the rare double failure of veteran Indian batter Virat Kohli. Kohli registered back-to-back ducks in the first two ODIs for the first time in his career. Former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who got out for just eight in the first match, weathered a storm against Australian menacing pacers Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Xavier Barlett. Rohit, after struggling initially, took on Mitch Owen and registered a hard-fought half-century. He was dismissed for 73 eventually.
However, the biggest point of criticism for India hasn’t been their batting but the selection. India are yet to play their wicket-taking wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Yadav, who failed to get any game time in the five-match Test series in England, remained on the bench for the first two matches as well.
He is expected to play the final ODI with the strip at SCG expected to be spinner-friendly and with the long boundaries. Another attraction for the last ODI would be Yashasvi Jaiswal, as in the presence of Rohit and Gill up top, he has yet to get any game time in this format for a very long time.
