As the temperature further drops across northern cities in India, the air quality index in most metropolitan cities is deteriorating. Indian cities, on Thursday, took up the top 40 spots among the world’s most polluted cities, with Delhi not landing in the top 10.

The worst air quality in the world was recorded in the city of Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan, with an AQI of 830 at 8.30 am, according to aqi.in. The second worst AQI in the world was recorded in the city Siwani in Haryana, at 676.

According to the ranking released by aqi.in, Delhi was at the 13th spot on Thursday morning, with an AQI of 433, in the ‘severe’ category.

Two days after the artificial rain trial in Delhi, the AQI in the national capital remained in the ‘severe’ category at over 400.

Environmentalists have termed the Delhi government’s cloud-seeding trial a short-term measure, saying it may temporarily reduce pollution but will not address the root causes of the capital’s deteriorating air quality.
