Amid the ongoing protests in Iran, the Indian Embassy in Israel has asked its nationals to remain vigilant and avoid non-essential travel.

The advisory comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East with the ongoing protests in Iran against the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei-led regime.

Previously, the Indian government on Wednesday urged all its nationals currently residing in Iran to leave by available means as the security situation in the country deteriorated further.

New Delhi also advised its citizens to avoid travelling to Iran.

The protests began late last month in Tehran amid an economic slowdown, with the Iranian currency plummeting to new lows. The protests, since then, have spread across all 31 provinces, with citizens descending to the streets to stage demonstrations against the Supreme Leader and demand a political change.

“In view of the evolving situation in Iran, Indian nationals who are currently in Iran (students, pilgrims, business persons and tourists) are advised to leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights," the Indian embassy in Iran had said.

“It is reiterated that all Indian citizens and PIOs (persons of Indian origin) should exercise due caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Iran and monitor local media for any developments," it added.
