Indian Idol 16: Mithun Chakraborty gets emotional as his son Ushmey shares memories while the show marks 50 years of his career

Indian Idol Season 16 has been welcoming some of the finest actors of yesteryears, such as Zeenat Aman, Helen, and Jaya Prada, and taking viewers on a trip down memory lane. The upcoming episode of the singing reality show, will be graced by first dancing superstar, Mithun Chakraborty. The official Instagram handle of the channel, dropped a promo from the upcoming episode where the atmosphere turns emotional as the legendary actor receives a heartfelt surprise from his sons, Mahaakshay Chakraborty and Ushmey Chakraborty.The special episode will celebrate Mithun Da’s 50 remarkable years in the film industry. During the episode, Ushmey Chakraborty's revelation turned the moment into an emotional and personal tribute that touched everyone present. The promo shows Ushmey sharing a special moment from his life and spoke about growing up around film sets and watching Mithun Da’s constant dedication towards his craft. In the clip, he shared that even during their childhood, they mostly saw their father on film sets.

He recalled the 1990s, when Mithun Da was at the peak of his career and would often shoot for four shifts in a single day.

Ushmey shared that it feels unreal to see his father complete 50 years in cinema in 2025.In the promo, speaking about his father Ushmey says, “Today, I have come to his set, and even in my childhood, we could only see him on sets. He was one of the biggest superstars of the 80s and 90s. He used to work four shifts in a single day.

And today, in 2026, this man has completed 50 years in the film industry. My first film was Bad Boy.”He added, “During its promotions, we went to Kolkata. We also visited his first home, the place where he was born. I couldn’t tolerate the stench of the street for more than 30 seconds because I am the son of a very big superstar."Ushmey got emotional speaking about the incident. He further added, "When I entered the house, I asked people about their memories of him.

They took me to a window and said, ‘At night, it used to feel so claustrophobic that you couldn’t see a single star in the sky. And from that very house emerged one of the biggest stars of Indian cinema, Mithun Da."Hearing his son's words for him, Mithun Da also got teary eyed and the two hugged each other on the stage. Indian Idol Judge and singer Shreya Ghoshal also got emotional and was seen wiping away tears.Later in the video, Aditya, Shreya, Vishal, Ushmey and Mimoh join Mithun Da on stage and can be seen dancing to his famous song 'Julie Julie'.
