An Indian man who allegedly stole nearly Rs 3.5 lakh worth of perfumes, bags and cosmetics from 14 shops in Singapore's Jewel Changi Airport before flying out has been arrested, The Straits Times reported.

The incident first came to light on May 29 when a supervisor at a retail store in Changi Airport found a bag missing, prompting him to inform the police immediately.

The surprise discovery was made during a routine inventory check, according to the preliminary probe.

Even though, the Singapore authorities established the identity of the 38-year-old Indian man, he had left Singapore by then.

However, when the man returned to Singapore on June 1, he was arrested in transit at the airport.

The police said that the man will likely be charged with theft and fraudulent possession of property on July 2.

In April, another Indian national was arrested for stealing items worth Rs 1,14,705 from five shops at Changi Airport.

Singh Sagar, 37, had stolen several items including jewellery, stationery and chocolates from the Terminal 3's departure transit area on March 23.

He allegedly stole Rs 35,000 worth items, including power bank and three stationery sets, from WH Smith bookstore.

Meanwhile, in India, a Brazilian citizen allegedly stole two luxury watches with a market value of over Rs 3 lakh from a duty-free store at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport before boarding his flight. After the incident, a case was registered against the accused by the police.

According to the complaint details, the incident happened at Terminal 2 of Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport on Saturday, January 4 when the accused, Ravi Gama Disa, visited the Ethos Duty-Free store at 12.50 am, expressing interest in purchasing watches.
