The Indian Navy is set to commission INS Androth, the second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam on Monday (October 6, 2025). The ceremony will be presided over by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command.
Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, INS Androth represents a significant step in India’s pursuit of maritime self-reliance. With over 80% indigenous content, the ship embodies the Navy’s emphasis on indigenisation, innovation, and capability enhancement under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Designed for anti-submarine warfare in littoral waters, INS Androth will enhance the Navy’s ability to counter underwater threats close to the coast and safeguard India’s maritime interests.
The commissioning of Androth follows the recent induction of warships such as Arnala, Nistar, Udaygiri, and Nilgiri, reflecting the Navy’s balanced modernisation across platforms and domains.
Together, these inductions highlight India’s growing shipbuilding expertise and the crucial role of GRSE and other Indian shipyards in strengthening the nation’s maritime security architecture. The addition of INS Androth reinforces the Navy’s commitment to maintaining a technologically advanced and self-reliant fleet.
