Indore's 'dancing cop' Ranjit Singh sent to police lines
INDORE: Indore’s well-known traffic policeman, popularly called the “dancing cop,” Ranjit Singh, was sent to police lines on Thursday following allegations made against him by a young woman on social media.Additional DCP crime branch Rajesh Dandotiya said that it was brought to notice through social media that Head Constable Ranjit Singh had sent objectionable messages to a woman. “It is expected from every civil servant that they maintain dignified behaviour. Under Section 3 of the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services Conduct Rules, 1965, and Para 64 of the Police Regulation Act, this act is considered misconduct. The inquiry into this matter has been assigned to me and the investigation is ongoing.
Till then, Ranjit has been sent to police lines,” said Dandotiya.A woman shared a video on Wednesday accusing Ranjit of sending her unsolicited messages and offering to arrange her travel and stay in Indore. She alleged that the cop had suggested booking her a flight ticket and making stay arrangements, which she found inappropriate. According to her, she refused the offer and asked him to maintain limits. Along with the video, she also posted screenshots of their chats.
The controversy deepened as several other women commented on the woman’s post, claiming they too had received similar messages from the policeman. One user wrote that many girls had been contacted but most chose to remain silent, while another praised the woman for speaking out.Responding to the allegations, Ranjit Singh said, “The chats were from over a year and a half ago and that the girl herself had suggested meeting and creating videos together. She had deleted parts of their conversation and was trying to gain attention by reviving the matter now. I never had any ill intentions.
