A 22-year-old medical student from Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior and a 30-year-old woman from Indore were among the victims who lost their lives after a London-bound Air India flight crashed shortly after take off in Ahmedabad on Thursday (June 13, 2025).
Harpreet Hora was travelling to London for her husband Robbie Singh Hora’s birthday on June 16. Family members said the 30-year-old woman was in Ahmedabad to visit her parents and was initially scheduled to return to London on June 19, but had preponed her trip.
“She was my daughter-in-law. She had gone to Ahmedabad to meet her family about 15 to 20 days ago. She was going back for my son’s birthday on June 16,” said Harjeet Singh Hora, her father-in-law who lives in Indore’s Rajmohalla area.
The deceased had worked as an IT professional in Bengaluru and moved to London with her husband, an engineer by profession. Her husband is scheduled to arrive in Indore on Friday, after which the family will depart for Ahmedabad to collect her mortal remains. The two married in 2020 and don’t have any children.
Aryan Kirar Rajput, a second-year MBBS student at Ahmedabad’s B.J. Medical College, died in the tragic accident after the flight crashed into the hostel mess of the college.
Rajput, who hailed from Gwalior’s Jiksauli village, had come to the mess for lunch. He had recently visited his home after completing the first year of college and had only returned to Ahmedabad on May 31.
About eight to 10 family members from his village, including his father Ramhetu Kirar Rajput, have gone to Ahmedabad and his body is expected to arrive in Gwalior in an ambulance. Mr. Ramhetu is a farmer and Aryan was his youngest son.
While relatives and neighbours have been visiting his house, Aryan’s mother and sister have not yet been told about his death and only know that he had suffered injuries.
Pankaj Singh Kirar, a relative of Mr. Rajput, said that the family received a phone call from one of his friends that he had passed away in the crash.
“A friend called us and asked us to come there [Ahmedabad]. Some family members have gone to Ahmedabad but we have not informed his mother and sister uet as everyone is in distress at the moment,” Mr. Ramhetu Rajput told reporters. He described Aryan as a bright and talented boy.
Gwalior Collector Ruchika Chouhan told The Hindu that the family is yet to arrive with Aryan’s body and that the district administration had made all the arrangements for the cremation.
“A team of district officials have been stationed at his house since [Friday] morning. We are extending all the necessary assistance to the family,” she said.
