Inter Milan are apparently ‘eager’ to retain manager Simone Inzaghi if he wishes to stay, according to club president Giuseppe Marotta, who emphasized that Saturday’s 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final will not influence their decision.
Luis Enrique’s PSG secured their first Champions League title with a record-winning margin in the final, while Inzaghi faced his second defeat at this stage, having previously lost to Manchester City in Istanbul two years ago.
Inzaghi’s contract with Inter expires in June next year. Marotta confirmed that discussions with the coach will commence shortly. Italian media speculates he could depart this month before the Club World Cup in the U.S. from June 14 to July 13.
Marotta stated that the recent defeat would not impact their decision. He mentioned that Inzaghi has a year left on his contract and that they had already planned to meet with him this week. He credited Inzaghi’s professionalism and capabilities for the club’s recent successes and expressed their happiness to continue with him if he chooses.
The club is not accustomed to letting a manager enter the final year of his contract without discussions. They will meet to hear Inzaghi’s perspective, and Marotta reiterated their pride and honor in potentially continuing their partnership.
Marotta congratulated PSG on their victory and acknowledged that Inter were significantly outplayed. He urged the team to move forward and focus on the upcoming Club World Cup, where they will represent Italy alongside Juventus.
