Matthew McConaughey, known for his roles in ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’, ‘Interstellar’, and ‘Ghosts of Girlfriends Past’, recently released another book titled ‘Poems and Prayers’. Essentially, the book is filled to the brim with hilarious as well as touching anecdotes from his life in the form of poems and prayers.

In one of the poems included in the collection, the actor shockingly opened up about a hard part of his life, when he was dealing with addiction.

The actor recently shared the book with the world, and one of the many excerpts in the publication has managed to shock fans and netizens alike. The actor confessed that there was once a time when he was extremely addicted to marijuana, which was, at that time, called ‘Mexican direct weed’.As per reports shared by the US Weekly magazine, the actor shared that, “Back in the days when I used to smoke weed, it was Mexican dirt weed. The kind where you passed the joint around, laughed, got the munchies, and hopefully snuck off for some good sex”.The 55-year-old shared his ordeal about the addiction, stating that he was stuck in a loop, where he would get high and would get stuck in a “paralysis”. He would often get “stuck for hours staring at that one grain in that one piece of wood in my ceiling rafters”, thinking that “It was trying to tell me something important.

It wasn’t”, the actor added.

Matthew McConaughey missed his own birthday party

Not only that, but he shared another shocking detail about his battle with addiction. He shared that while he was high, he ended up missing his own birthday. He revealed that he was stuck in his car for hours, for he “couldn’t quit” playing ‘That’s the Way Love Goes’ by Janet Jackson. He sat in his car for hours on that day simply listening to the track.
